Trinity

Last Sunday, pastor Brenten taught one of the essential doctrines for Christians about the nature of God and our relationship with Him. The Trinity - although not a word found in the Bible - is a Biblical doctrine. According to the Bible, there is only one God, and there are three distinct persons who are called God (the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit), thus these three persons are one God.

Here's a simple outline of Brenten's teaching on the Trinity:
I. There is one true and living God
II. Three persons are called God
  1. The Father is God
  2. Jesus is God
  3. The Holy Spirit is God
III. These three persons are one God
IV. The person of the Holy Spirit
V. The work of the Holy Spirit in the world

"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen."
2 Corinthians 13:14

I. UPWARD:
RECEIVE CHRIST
The only way to come to God is through Jesus Christ (John 14:6, Acts 3:12, Acts 20:21, 1 Tim 2:5)
  • God is holy, just, and good, so he hates sin and cannot accept evil, he requires perfection.
  • Man fell from the goodness he was created in by willfully sinning (breaking God's law).
  • God became a man and lived a perfectly sinless life yet He died receiving our punishment.
  • Jesus is risen to life, appeared to many, ascended to heaven, and lives to intercede for us.
  • All who repent (change their mind), trust in Him, call upon him and receive Him are saved.
  • To all who received him, to them he gave the right to be called born again children of God.
  • Having been saved, He wants to sanctify you and prepare you for eternity. Follow Him.
  • Continue to live by faith in Christ until you die, then you will go be with Him in heaven.
WALK IN HIM
This relationship with God through Christ is "daily" (Luke 9:23) and "At all times" (Luke 18:1)
Where? @ church, home, work, school, everywhere!
Emphasis: the most important one that we can know, love and serve is God.
Prerequisit: to be His disciple, you must love Jesus more than anyone else.
We encourage you to read your Bible, pray, trust and obey Jesus.

WORSHIP HIM
Acts 13:2, John 4:24
  • We believe worship of God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.
  • We believe worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give a great place to music in our worship.
  • We believe worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon teaching the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshiped.
  • We believe worship of God is fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshiping Him.

James

From September 5th to December 5th, Calvary Latvia has been studying the epistle of James (Jēkaba vēstule) on Sunday mornings. Our faith has been tested and challenged by this practical little book. The testing of our faith is producing endurance in our walk with the Lord. We are really growing in the wisdom from above and commitment to our Father of lights. It has been humbling and life changing. God's word applies so directly to our lives as Christians and as a church. We hope that these messages will also be encouraging to you as you listen to them. You can download the audio files below or at http://www.archive.org/details/Epistle_of_James. And if you are in the Riga, Latvia area, come join us Sundays at 10:30 as we continue to study through the Bible!

Jesus in the Old Testament

From January 2009 to February 2010, Calvary Latvia set out on a survey of the Old Testament with a goal to discover Jesus Christ. Our goal was not simply to see what it says about Jesus but to grow in understanding and faith, applying it to our life and walk with Jesus. Each week we read individually at home and then came together on Sundays to study what we had read. We encourage you to read your Bible and listen to pastor Brenten's studies as we go book by book, chapter by chapter through the Bible. (Click on the links to go to our blog posts and MP3's on the particular book you are reading)..

Law of Moses:
Genesis | Exodus | Leviticus | Numbers | Deuteronomy

Early Prophets: Joshua | Judges | Ruth | 1-2 Samuel | 1-2 Kings |

Later Prophets: 1-2 Chronicles | Ezra | Nehemiah | Esther

Poetic Prophets: Job | Psalms | Proverbs | Ecclesiasties | Song of Solomon

Major Prophets: Isaiah | Jeremiah | Lamentations | Ezekiel | Daniel |

Minor Prophets: Hosea | Joel | Amos | Obediah | Jonah | Micah | Nahum | Habakkuk | Zephaniah | Haggai | Zechariah | Malachi

Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew

We are studying the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew on Sunday mornings at Calvary in Riga. We will be uploading the MP3s here every week as we study verse by verse, chapter by chapter.

Verses 1-17 The Genealogy of Jesus Christ [MP3]
Verses 18-25 The Birth of Jesus Christ [MP3]

Matthew 21:1-11 The Triumphal Entry of Jesus Christ [MP3]

Matthew 28:1-20 The Resurrection and Great Commission [MP3]

Christ is Risen!

Christ is risen indeed!
This is more than a statement of faith, it's a statement of fact from the eyewitnesses themselves. Jesus in Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, Acts 1, 1 Corinthians 15 is proclaimed as "Risen"!

So if it is true that Jesus is the Christ and Christ has risen from the dead just as the prophets predicted and the apostles saw fulfilled, then our faith is not in vain. Believers are justified. And neither is our labor in Christ in vain. Believers are rewarded. And neither is our suffering for Christ. Believers will enjoy God's presence forevermore. For if Jesus has conquered death, we all will rise from the dead. Some will be raised unto damnation and others unto eternal life (John 5:29). Those who have believed the testimony of the prophets (Old Testament) and apostles (New Testament) and and abide in His word will know the truth and the truth will set us free. So the life we now live we live by faith until the end of this life when we will see Him face to face and we will be changed. Then we will receive the reward of His suffering, we will attain to the resurrection unto life. We will rejoice with joy unspeakable before the throne of the Lamb who was slain but who rose again! Hallelujah!

Therefore, join us as we celebrate the Resurrection and the Life.
"I am the Resurrection and the Life" - Jesus Christ (see John 11:35)
  • What? Resurrection Sunday Service of Calvary Latvia
  • Where? In the conference rooms at Europa City Hotel, 199c Brivibas, Riga.
  • When? Sunday morning at 10:30. The 3rd of April, 2010
  • Why? Because Jesus Christ is risen indeed.

Teaching at Calvary Monterey

Last night I was given the great opportunity to teach the Wednesday night service at Calvary Chapel Monterey Bay. I've been a part of this church since 1998 and that sent us out as missionaries. I've been sharing about our mission with the missions group and home fellowships, but I was very excited to be able to teach about Jesus, giving an overview of what I've been teaching for the last year in Ogre and Riga, Latvia. Several people told me afterwards how the message encouraged them in their walks with Jesus. I hope it you'll be blessed by it too.

Next Meeting - March 28

FROM NOW UNTIL MARCH 28TH, THERE WILL BE NO SERVICES
Calvary Bible church will NOT have services in Latvia while pastor Brenten is in America with his family. Weekly services will begin again on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 10:30. Join us then for a special Palm Sunday service at Calvary Bible church. Then we will have "Outreach week" as we will be inviting everyone to hear the gospel and come to our Easter service on April 4th.

Jesus in Daniel

In January, we studied the great prophetic book of Daniel which testifies to the greatness of Jesus over the kingdoms of men. You can download the MP3 here, or click on the player to listen now.

Since our time in Daniel is limited to one teaching, we can only skim the main points, lessons for life and prophecies of Christ. So I am posting more useful resources for those who want to study Daniel more in depth.

I would recommend to pastor David Guzik's 12 messages from Daniel at enduringword.com
